National Home Security Month 2017
Monday 2nd October marked the official beginning of National Home Security Month 2017, which is an annual event designed to raise awareness about the importance of home security, as well as share insight into exactly how devastating of an impact burglary can have on households.
This year, the campaign has a record-number of supporting companies pledging to take part in the event, including Homebase, B&Q, Amazon and Yale.
The campaign is split up into five weeks, and each week the organisation will be raising awareness and offering advice on different issues surrounding home security.
Week one will involve grabbing the attention of homeowners by offering discounts and competitions to win sophisticated security products, whereas week two will be focusing on simple, yet effective, security measures which are often overlooked.
Week three explains the ins and outs of what smart security is and how it is changing the future for homeowners, including examples of the newest technology and where to buy it.
The issue of burglaries increasing during the winter months is to be addressed in week four, and lastly, week five will focus around protecting homes from vandals during Halloween; the time of year when there is the highest spike in incidents of malicious damage to property.
2017 will be the fifth year in a row that National Home Security Month has taken place.
Last year, the campaign was publicised in many well-known newspapers such as The Sun and The Daily Mirror and was able to reach an audience of 11 million listeners through the radio.
